Why All The Hype? For Ilia Skin Tint

Ilia Skin Tint, (1)

While some of this coverage could be paid or affiliate promotion, it doesn’t consider all the hype or the nearly 6,000 reviews on the ILIA website. The world will not stop talking about ILIA Skin Tint SPF 40 because it brings something to the market that we have never seen before: sunscreen, skincare and foundation all in one. My experience with ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 has been hot/cold, and my hesitation is evident if you read on. Like taking shots of limoncello, hooking up with an ex, or bingeing on Felicity. It sounds so good in theory, but once you get into it. Doubts start to creep in. And I will walk you through the whole process with this ILIA Super Serum.

ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint Review: Pros + Cons

By now, you can see how I come and go about using ILIA’s Super Serum Skin Tint. I feel like I’m rarely excited to put it on, but when I do, I’m amazed at how much I like it. Of course, it’s not my favorited, but I find more things to enjoy every time I use it. So here’s the complete list of pros and cons running through my head.

Advantage:

  • It’s not your mom’s white sun protection factor.
  • ILIA recognizes that “tinted” does not mean just one color and offers this product in 30 shades.
  • Fragrance-free (slightly zinc smelling).
  • Brings skin to life through a glow like no other.
  • Treats skin with skin-supporting ingredients.
  • It offers 40 SPF, which is higher than most everyday SPFs.
  • Blurs imperfections and redness.

Cons:

  • Too wet for some people.
  • Some sites say this is a buildable base, but I don’t think it is. Layering this product only makes it greasier.
  • It can accumulate in dry areas and laugh and smile lines.
  • You need to find that balance of “enough product” to achieve SPF 40 but not too much where it gets oily.
  • The color oxidizes, so you may have to try and fail with which shade to choose.
  • The wear changes as the day progress. It’s super wet at first, but then evens out less and less the longer it sits on the skin.
  • Avoid applying to the eyelids and too close to the eyes (sunscreen in the eyes = annoying).
  • Not suitable as a base or eyelid primer.
  • It can make the hairline look greasy if applied too close.
  • It tends to sit on the skin when initially applied, and you will have to use it to get the look you want.
  • This is a SHEER to LIGHT coverage. This is enough to fade hyperpigmentation and some redness but not enough to cover any blemishes.
  • Not buildable.
  • Best on exfoliated skin as it will pick up the texture.

Description Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF30

A clean, tinted serum with light, dewy coverage, mineral SPF, and activity levels of skincare ingredients.

How it works: Your tinted SPF will never be the same. This first-of-its-kind formula combines skincare, makeup, and sun protection in one step: a lightweight serum that leaves skin looking like skin. Non-nano zinc oxide provides SPF 40 coverage to help protect skin from UVA, UVB, UVC rays, blue light, and pollution.

Ilia

Product as sunscreen: Problems

  1. 1/4 teaspoon application does not work at all.
  2. The oil does not sink into my skin at all:
  3. It Doesn’t hold up: just one bump, and it’s on my fingers.

ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint Update: Using the total amount needed for sun protection, this doesn’t look very good.

Marketing it as sun protection is crazy. I’m not sure if anyone could use this as sunscreen. Acceptable use for me is one drop, about 0.01 oz, the amount I would use as a foundation. However, since full protection needs 1g, this usage amount will probably only equal SPF10, if any.

Other Sun Protection Issues

The Super Serum does not come with broad-spectrum protection. Zinc oxide protects against UVA, UVAII, and UVB rays, but the brand hasn’t seen fit to do the extra testing to label the product as broad-spectrum. So what shows (for me) that the UVA protection is less than the necessary third of the SPF? Maybe they are stingy? Or, of course, they know that the product can never remain adequately used as a sunscreen.

(By the way, if you’re wondering about branded SPF30 EU and SPF40  US, sunscreens can only be labelled SPF30 or 50 in the EU.)

Why Are We So Upset About The Lack Of UVA Protection?

Because broad-spectrum protection is critical: the Skin Cancer Organization says so, the European Union says so, and every other derma says so (and we’ve even written about it here and here). In addition, Ilia’s description is also false: while it is essential to defend yourself from UVA and UVB rays, UVC rays remain filtered by the ozone layer and do not reach us.

The Product As A Base: Problems

The color was too dark for my skin tone, mainly when I used it in the 1/4 teaspoon version. But it isn’t easy to find the right color. Now, from the picture, I should try ST10, although I usually never classify myself as having a medium skin tone. (God, I felt judged by the models next to me, lol). The Ilia Super Serum could still work if you want an oil-type base on your skin. If your skin is dehydrated, you could benefit from the benefits of “serum”. Unfortunately, those are mostly squalene, shea butter, some niacinamide, and aloe, which are not innovative in a serum. I still feel like it sits on my skin (even in a drop), so it’s not for me.

Is Ilia’s Skin Tone Super Serum Worth it?

Ilia Skin Tint, (2)

When the world reoriented itself towards virtual meetings and FaceTime dating last spring, the famous fashion site Man Repeller (then Repeller and, abruptly, now defunct) introduced a serum that the review compared to the filter “retouch my appearance” on Zoom. . Although not a site I read religiously, I remained moved by this article, probably because I was stuck at home, constantly on Zoom, depressed and sad, and anxious to panic. Your article on Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 attracted me because it wasn’t just a direct editorial feature but remained initially prompted by a reader’s suggestion.

Eager To Try This Ilia Skin Tint

The product that supposedly [makes your skin look perfect] and upholds that idyllic balance among skincare and makeup, I eagerly tried to purchase my shade…only to find that it was literally out of stock for weeks. , and maybe even months. But I wasn’t alone in my enthusiasm for the recommendation. Last summer, when I finally got my hands on a bottle (Shella ST8, if anyone’s wondering), some of the excitement had worn off, but since I’d pretty much stopped wearing makeup or going out in public by then, it remained still lovely to have something new to try.

Conclusion

A clean skin tint that fuses skincare, makeup and sun protection into one easy step. This weightless formula features SPF 40 coverage and non-nano Zinc Oxide that safely protects the skin from harmful UVA, UVB, UVC and blue and infrared light.  At the same time, the skin is nourished with Hyaluronic Acid, plant-based Squalene, and Niacinamide to hydrate, plump and even out the skin all while visibly softening fine lines and imperfections. The result is a natural, long-lasting yet dewy finish that wears comfortably on the skin.
