Definition

Flagle  – Flagle or Flagyl is a drug using  to treat infections of bacterial or parasitic origin such as colitis (inflammation of the colon) and vaginitis (inflammation of the vulva or vagina). It contains metronidazole, an active ingredient that acts by inhibiting the synthesis of nucleic acids. Whenever, this drug exists in several forms: tablet, oral suspension, egg, and solution for injection.

Symptoms

This will be indicated in treating certain infections caused by bacteria or parasites defined as sensitive germs. These infections include colitis, vaginitis, amoebiasis, lambliasis, and urogenital trichomoniasis. The dose to be managed varies according to the patient’s weight and the germ involved. Vaginitis: 500 mg per day (2 doses) for one week • Amoebiasis: 1.50 g/day in adults (3 doses), 30 to 40 mg/kg/day in children (3 doses) |• Trichomoniasis: 0.50 g/day orally and 1 egg/day in women, 0.50 g/day orally in men |• Lambliasis: 1 to 1.5 g/day in adults, 20 to 30 mg/kg/day in children.

Contraindications

Flagyl is contraindicated in people hypersensitive to metronidazole or wheat. The tablets are contraindicated in children under six years of age, but there are other forms suitable for younger children (oral solution).

What are The Side effects?

Taking metronidazole can cause several side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain), skin reactions, headaches, dizziness, seizures, visual disorders and mood, and liver damage.

Combinations not recommends

Due to the risk of adverse effects, it is not recommending to combine Flagyl® with Alcohol (risk of tachycardia and vomiting) |  Disulfiram (risk of confusion and psychosis) | Anticoagulants (increased risk of bleeding)

How does this medication work? What are its effects?

Metronidazole is appropriate to the class of medications called antibiotics. It is recycled to treat impurities cause by certain bacteria. It is most commonly use  to treat abdominal, vaginal, and intestinal infections. Metronidazole works by killing bacteria and parasites.

This medication is available under various brand names or in different presentations. Therefore, a specific brand of this drug may not come in all forms. Other way,  be approve for all conditions discuss here. Also, some forms of this medication may not be use for all the needs mentioned in this article.

Common Side Effects

Common sideeffects

  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, lack of appetite, metallic taste in the mouth, inflammation, and dryness of the mouth, discoloration of the tongue ( mycosis ).
  • It was tingling in the extremities, headaches, dizziness, confusion of ideas, convulsions, muscle stiffness, and difficulty coordinating movements.
  • Hallucinations, depress mood, and delirium require medical advice (see Warning).
  • Visual disturbances (blurred or double vision, decreased visual acuity, and change in color vision).
  • Hot flushes, itching.
  • However, Very rarely an allergic reaction ( urticaria, angioedema, anaphylactic shock ) or severe skin rash requiring treatment discontinuation and contraindicating. Any further use (see Caution), pancreatitis, increases transaminases, hepatitis, count abnormality blood count.

Allergic Reaction

Avoid the absorption of alcoholic beverages or drugs containing alcohol during treatment: risk of Antabuse effect.

Given its potential adverse effects, this medication may not be compatible with driving or operating dangerous machinery for some people. Therefore, make sure on the occasion of the first catches that you tolerate this medicine well before moving or using a machine.
